Growing Garden

There have been many visits from the children at Easington Lane primary school and these have been very enjoyable for all concerned. We have planted strawberries, cabbages, lettuce, 2 flower types and peas.
Most children don’t mind getting messy but a few who did soon ‘mucked in’ with the rest and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Everyone, including the teachers, was hands on and the children were genuinely interested in how plants grow and asked lots of questions. They were also encouraged to weed as this is an integral part of gardening: this led to the start of the compost bin although there was a lot more work to be done with that.

We always ended with the watering and each child had their own watering can which we filled using the hose pipe. We all ended up with wet feet and some even went on to the plants!

On several occasions the children from the Children’s centre ‘Messy play’ sessions have helped me water the garden: this is always great fun. This project has been, and continues to be a great success which all concerned, myself included, are very proud to be part of.
